Following palestinian filmmakers’ steps

In the fall 2012, the French Company Ici, Là-Bas et Ailleurs invited you to follow the steps of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwich. This year, it is taking you to Palestine again but, this time, for an encounter with its cinema.
It is an event about memory, of course, but also about history and stories. The discovery path will follow the pace of the filmmakers, actors and witnesses of the situation imposed on the Palestinian people.
Palestinian documentaries, dramas, feature films and short films offer a multiform, diversified, original landscape that amazes with its wealth.
A retrospective of Rashid Masharawi’s films will be showcased, in the presence of the director, and Masharawi’s last feature film, « Palestine Stereo », will be shown (http://tiff.net/filmsandschedules/f...).
A round table with various Palestinian directors will provide an opportunity to trace back the history of Palestinian filmmaking from its birth, to reflect on its transformation, its contribution and relationship to the Arab cultural environment and the cinema in general.
The event will provide a wide space for the work of young Palestinian filmmakers, some of whom being present in Toulouse to introduce their short films.
Ciné-Palestine will combine various other forms of artistic expressions (readings, music) to the cinematographic art and reach out to high school and university students.
Carried by the Company Ici, Là-Bas et Ailleurs (Cilba), sponsored by Toulouse’s City Hall, Haute-Garonne General Council, Midi-Pyrénées Councel, the French Consulate in Jerusalem and various partners among which ESAV, ABC, Shashat-Women’s film festival in Palestine, Dar al-Kalina Université de Bethleem…, Ciné-Palestine will offer a complex, poetic, sometimes off-beat cinema that fits perfectly in our city, our region and the world.
